Here’s another update about my blog.
Give me all your money Internet!
As I mentioned in the previous update, I’ll try to monetize this blog a bit, starting with PayPal donation buttons. You can now find these in my sidebar widget and at the end of every blog post. So, please buy me coffee if you can afford to and help me keep my little corner of the web going.
Now, I really, really hate ads, so I’ll never have ads on my site and I’ll only review and recommend products and places I’ve tried and actually like. That unfortunately severely limits two popular avenues of blogging income, so if you know anyone who has an actually useful, cool product and would be interested in working with me, please send them my way!
Collaborations
- Awesome tips for solo female hiking – I contributed a tip for a roundup blog post about solo female hiking at Travelling Tam blog
- The best “activities” for those lazy travel days – and a lazy travel day activity suggestion for a roundup blog post at Travel on the Reg blog
I’m also working on a collaborative post about travel fails, which will be posted on my blog.
Ebooks
Additionally, I’ve decided to try and make some ebooks that I’ll sell for a small price or for donations, depending on what I end up going with. Currently I’m thinking of putting together some recipes (I don’t usually write down recipes, as I cook by feel, so those will be a real struggle!), a small collection of my impressionist poems and an illustrated version of my Covid-19 bus chronicles. I’ve partnered up with an artist friend, so he’ll illustrate my satirical posts about encounters on the public bus at the start of the coronavirus pandemic in Slovenia. I’ve translated them into English, of course.
At this point I’m asking you, dear readers who actually read my blog (which continues to surprise me and thank you for that), what would you be interested in when it comes to ebooks? Let me know in the comments below please.
Patreon and subscriptions
Phase 2 of my monetization plan will include setting up a Patreon account with early access to some of my other projects, bonus goofy personal content, voting power for what you’d like to see more of or next, and tangible benefits like postcards from my travels etc. As I mentioned in the previous update, I don’t want to become one of those “pay to play” websites, so all of my projects will eventually find their way here for free.
I also don’t want to entice people into subscribing for my newsletters because I’m offering a freebie. I want you to subscribe because you like my work and want to support me. And yes, I realise that is not the most efficient business model, but this is my corner of the web and I want it to run on good faith. As my bio says, I still believe in dragons and goodness, so I believe that those of you who like my blog will support me in whichever way you can.
Support comes in different forms and we’re not just talking about money here, so consider subscribing to my newsletters, following my blog on WordPress or social media or dropping a comment to let me know you’re there. Although I can tell my blog is growing from the daily viewing statistics, it is entirely different when it’s an actual person showing me that my efforts are appreciated or at least interesting. More motivation for me means more content for you, or something like that.
So, I look forward to seeing more of you get in touch!
